Description of the research topic:
Salt stress is one of the most harmful stress factors nowadays thanks to more frequent drought periods and inadequate irrigation water supply. Our Department is taking an active part of decipher salt tolerance mechanisms of dicot plants, but there is not any comparative description about salt tolerance of Hungarian monocot plant species (eg. Juncus sp.). Glycophyte and halophyte plant species differ from production of protective secondary metabolites which can able to use these plants for phytoremediation or different bioactive compounds. This PhD research aims to examine the salt tolerance mechanisms of some glycophyte and halophyte modell plant species in laboratory and make a comparable description about some Hungarian monocot plant species for further investigations and applications.
Required language skills: English, medium level Further requirements: knowledge of plant growth, plant physiology and advanced practice of plant biochemical methods
