Organic matter and clay minerals are the two most important components of soils. Due to their favourable properties, they have a notable influence on the water and nutrient content of soils and they can fix pollutant. Intimate intergrowths of organic matter and clay minerals, so called organo-mineral complexes are in the focus of the research project. Although soil science traces back several processes and soil properties to organo-mineral complexes, these complexes comprise the most mysterious component of soils. The main goal of the research is to reveal and characterize organo-mineral complexes in different soils. Their effects on soil physico-chemical properties will be also studied.
